The NeuroAffective Relational Model® (NARM®) is a resource-oriented, a non-regressive, and mindfulness-based clinical model for treating Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Complex Trauma (C-PTSD).

Developed by Dr. Laurence Heller, NARM uses a top-down (cognitive) and bottom-up (body-based), approach to help clients reconnect with their emotions and body, ultimately fostering self-regulation and a stronger, more integrated sense of self.

NARM focuses on overcoming attachment, relational, and developmental trauma by addressing adaptive survival styles.

It is a containment model that enables clients to build capacity to handle intense emotions.

NARM aims to help individuals move beyond their survival strategies to experience greater connection with themselves and others.

NARM® is effective for :

  • Complex Trauma (C-PTSD): Persistent or repetitive trauma rather than a single event.

  • Childhood Developmental Trauma: Early attachment wounds and emotional neglect.

  • Chronic Self-Disconnection: Feeling detached from the body, emotions, or vitality.

  • Relationship Difficulties: Issues with trust, intimacy, and setting boundaries.

  • Mental Health Struggles: Anxiety, depression, addictions, eating disorders, and chronic stress.

  • Deep-Rooted Shame: Addressing distortions in identity and self-worth.
